Amy Jacobson

Amy Jacobson created Special Education Gurus after seeing a need for easy-to-access and effective training for teachers and paraeducators who work with students with disabilities.  She developed the courses based on her 20+ years of experience working as a special education teacher as well as working as a faculty member in a master’s program in special education at a university located in North Dakota.

Amy completed her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Mayville State University and holds a Master of Education in Special Education as well as a Doctor of Education in Teacher Education from the University of North Dakota.

Special Education Gurus makes administering and managing this training simple for school administrators and supervisors. Special Education Gurus does the heavy lifting to make this as seamless as possible!

The Process:

  • Send Ann (help@specialeducatiogurus.com) the names and email addresses of your paraeducators.
  • Send Ann a due date for your paraeducators to complete the training.
  • We bill the school/special education unit for each user.
  • We then get them going, track their progress, answer their questions and concerns, and finally, ensure that they complete the course on/before the due date.
  • They receive a certificate of completion and send it to their supervisor/administrator.
  • We communicate with school personnel if/when any problems arise with course access, work completion, etc.

Send to the person indicated on your welcome letter!

When must I have all the content completed?

A specific due date was included in your welcome letter.

Can I download the course content?

Yes. You can download the video instruction for offline use. After the video is downloaded, you will be able to go offline and view the video. Downloading the videos will help with any skipping that may occur; very infrequently, if the user’s bandwidth is less than 3G, skipping may occur.

Can I view a transcription of the lectures?

Yes. You simply click out of the table of contents and the transcription is made available.

Is the external content required for me to review?

Yes. The external content is extremely valuable, and it is required that it is reviewed in its entirety

Can I rewind the video to view the material again?

Yes. There are several ways the videos can be rewound. You can either use click the back arrow to rewind 5 seconds at a time, use the scrub bar to rewind the video to your preferred placement, or click on the preferred placement in the transcription.

How can I extend the time on individual slides to ensure I have enough time to review the material?

This is very important. Read carefully! To allow enough time to review the content, you should pause the videos. After the audio lecture, there is a 2-8 second pause until the slide advances. The length of time is dependent on the amount of information included on each slide. Because everyone prefers/requires different amounts of time to review the material, the best way to individualize the length is to use the pause button.
